Jagadish Chinthala



Artist JagadishChinthala has transcended the mundane art form on flat canvas and has created unique three-dimensional paper collages, masks and tubular sculptures, each reflecting its own exceptional identity and inspiring narrative. After completing his Diploma in Painting from College of Fine Arts and Architecture, Hyderabad, he went to study PG Diploma in Mural Design, M S University, Baroda. While working in Doordarshan, he adopted papier mache medium and started perfecting it over the years. His sold-out show in Garhi Studio, Delhi brought him a huge recognition along with an opportunity to study in UK through a British Envoy in Mumbai. Soon, he was offered a three-months British Council and Charles Wallace India Trust Travel Grant for study and research in the UK with Henry Moore, a renowned English artist. Although he lives in Hyderabad he has patrons all over the world, which is why hetravels every four months to Michigan, USA to work in his studio for his overseas patrons.He has been bestowed with many accolades including the Pollock – Krasener Foundation Award.

JAGDEEP SMART


Jagdeep Smart, whose art revolves around Indian mythology, puppetry, magic and much more was born in 1956. His interest in art was nurtured by his artist uncle Vasudev Smart, which led young Jagdeep to acquire a Masters degree from Faculty of Fine Arts, M. S. University, Baroda. He later became a well-known professor of Fine Arts department at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. Being a budding poet, he translated the biography of artist M. F. Hussain in Gujarati. He had sketched few buildings through his artistic flair. Besides painting, he has shown path to budding artists and students through art festival promotions and curriculum designing. He had exhibited his works extensively across India. He had been bestowed with several awards including award for painting by UNICEF, Gujarat Lalit Kala Academy award, Kalidas Academy award, among others. He breathed his last in 2009 at the age of 53.

Haku Shah



Haku Vajubhai Shah, an eminent painter, tribal art scholar and a writerwas born in 1934 in Valod, Gujarat. After finishing his graduation and a master’s degree in fine arts from M S University, Baroda, he focussed on subjects like traditional and rural India. 

His art is unpretentious, elegant, yet bubbling with vibrant hues & native characters, highlighting itsvery origin; but it’s narrative is relatable across borders. Herdsmen, cow, flute and many women in his paintings bringsone closer to rustic Indian life. He hasdone many solo shows across the world and has introduced tribal Indian art to the world. He has published several books on pottery&Indian artforms and has also published books for children. He is a curator of Museum for Tribal Cultures at Gujarat Vidhyapeth. He is associated with several museums across the world and has established Folk Art Museum in Ahmedabad. He has been bestowed with Padma Shri for his contribution towards art.

Akbar Padamsee Artist



Akbar Padamsee, a master, in his 90s withboundlesscreative energy, is one of the top contemporary artists of India. Born in 1928 in an affluent Muslim familyof Bhavnagar district, Gujarat, he went to Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai to study Diploma in Painting. In 1951, hewent to Paris and started painting for Atelier 17, a studio ofSurrealisticartist Stanley Hayter. He soon held his first show at Galerie Saint Placide in 1952.He had his very first solo show in Jehangir Art Galleryin 1954. He is a close associate of Progressive Artists Group (PAG). After seeking an insight into the art outside India through learning, working and associating with several organizations abroad, he came back to his home country in 1967. His work usually revolves around monochromatic heads and nudes or vibrant and colourful landscapes His inspiration behind introducing sun and moon in bright and bold metascapes has originated from an introductory stanza in Kalidasa’s Abhijnanashakuntalam, informs the master. He is not only skilled in creatingsublime paintings, drawings and metal or clay sculptures, but he has mastered the art ofphotography, films, printmaking and computer graphics. He is a recipient of Padma Shri and Kalidas Samman for his contribution towards art.

Indian Artist - Anjani Reddy



Anjani Reddy born in 1951,captures emotions and innocence of womendressed in colourful and traditional Indian attire in her canvases. Having completed her diploma in Painting from JNT University, Hyderabad, she started giving meaning to the voice of women through her paintings. She choosesregular woman as her subject, either busy in day to day chores or having a dialogue with nature or recalling lost childhood or bubbling in festivities with fellow women and family. Her wedding series, illustrating the Indian marriage ceremonies was full of vibrant hues and cheerful spirits. She has been awarded Raja Ravi Verma Samman for her alluring artworks. She has exhibited her works across many nations.

M F Hussain - legendary artist - India's Biggest Art Store



Maqbool Fida Husain, a legendary artist who brought immense fame to his homeland, India on an international platform was born in 1915 in Pandharpur, Maharashtra. During his teenage, while learning Calligraphy, he developed interest in art and decided to pursue it through enrolling in J J School of Art, Mumbai. To support himself financially he started painting Bollywood hoardings and made toys for a toy company. To break the longstanding ideas of Bengal School of Art, Hussain along with artists S HRaza and Souza established Progressive Artists’ Group, during the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, which encouraged artists to adopt modernism and embrace new ideas. This movement changed the face of art in India significantly. He exhibited his works across the world and attained renown very early in his career. Hussain uses cubist style to paint, with most of his subjects chosen from Indian epics. However, he was often embroiled in controversies for portraying disrobed ‘Bharat Mata’ and Hindu Gods & Goddesses in his canvases. He was eventually forced to leave the country and seek asylum in Qatar and London. His paintings have been sold for big bucks,unlike any other artist. Apart from painting, he had directed many films, some of which won him awards. He had been bestowed with Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Raja Ravi Verma Award for his massive contribution towards Indian Art. He breathed his last in 2011 in London, but the legacy he left behind has indeed changed the face of India in the field of art.

Famous Indian Artist - Manu Parekh Paintings



Artist ManuParekh’s oeuvre reflects the relationship between man & nature and the many emotions of the artist himself as a subject. Born in 1939 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Parekh went to Sir J.J School of Art to study Diploma in Drawing and Painting. After a brief stint in acting and stage designing in theatre, he worked as an art designer in Mumbai. In 1965, he moved to Kolkata and was influenced by the philosophies and perceptions of Rabindranath Tagore and Ram KinkerBaij, which can be vividly seen in his works. His visit to Varanasi influenced him to paint vibrant landscapes of Banaras reflecting hope, faith and a desire to revisit the place. His art ranges from Landscapes to abstract, heads, animals etc., all beaming with scintillating shades. With career spanning 60 years, artist Parekh has been presented with many awards including a Padma Shri. He has featured his work extensively across the globe.

S H Raza Artist



Sayed Haider Raza who is noted as one of the most illustrious artists of India, was born in 1922. Having studied painting from Nagpur School of Art and later from Sir J. J. School of Art, Bombay, where he co-founded Progressive Artists’ Group, his interest in abstract art drew him towards his further studies in the Ecole nationalesuperieure des Beaux-Arts of Paris. He later settled in France and pursued his career in modern art. Initially, he filled his canvases with expressionist landscapes of French villages, however with time his artform became more abstract and colourful. He later got influenced by Indian scientific concepts of space, time, energy and started using ‘Bindu’, the dot and several geometric patterns relevant to Hindu religion in his artworks. During this time(1970s), he moved back to India. He also served as a visiting lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, USA. Raza was bestowed with one of India’s highest civilian awards, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. He was also beingconferred with the prestigious Commandeur de la Légiond’Honneur, from French Government. He founded Raza Foundation, who gives away annual awards to the young artists in India. He passed away in 2016 at the age of 94.

Nabibakhsh Mansoori’s artwork emanates sparklinghues that can make an onlooker freeze before the canvas in awe.Being born in Idar, Gujarat in 1966, his canvas reflects his childhood memories of nature, folklores and people. He obtained a Diploma in Fine Arts from C.N. College of Fine Arts, Ahmedabad and a PG Diploma in Fine arts from Faculty of Fine Arts, M. S University, Baroda.With numerous points of focus, Mansoori’s works highlights histrionic use of light with bold and bright colours, usually in oils or acrylics. He has exhibited his works in several solo and group shows across the country. He has received several awards and honours including Gujarat state Lalit Kala Academy Award.He lives in Ahmedabad.
